What have you done today to move forward with a goal, commitment, resolution, or dream? Seems like everyone talks about setting the goal or dreaming the dream but most never get past step 1. Now, full disclosure, I have to work on this constantly. Some days I do better than others. I own that.
What does help when I am feeling like progress is eluding me is to ask myself some “accountability questions.”
- Is this still important? If no, what changed or what caused you to reconsider the importance?
- What is the value in doing them? Committing to them?
- If they were important and there is value, what prevented you from accomplishing what you hoped to accomplish?
- Where do you need to improve?
- What will you do differently?
- What support do you need to get it done?
- Who do you need to get involved?
- When will you start?
Sometimes we think we have to make huge strides or feel like we are failing. However, I have found that is usually not the case. If I begin with some action – maybe it is researching, reading, brainstorming, or trying (and sometimes failing) I feel better at moving the needle.
Take one thing. One step. One action that will move things forward. If you take one step every day to achieve the goal, commitment, resolution, or dream, suddenly you will be there. What one thing can you do today to make progress? Go do it!
